Blog or Website - What Should YOU Choose ?

In your quest to earn money online, one of the most basic dilemmas you will be faced with is whether to start a new website or a new blog?

The answer depends on many factors. There’s no one size fits all solution.

Following are the basic points that should help you determine which platform is better option for you:

Do you have a physical product / products to sell? Can it be purchased online or requires physical shipping ?

Do you want to create a social platform where people can interact with each other ( forums, discussion, message boards, social networking, etc) ?

Do you have only information to share with the web?

In the former two cases, a dedicated website it a better option for you while in the third case, a blog would be more viable option.

As they say well begun is half done and the Federal Govt's Small Business Administration website ( SBA) is an excellent read for having a sense of direction.

Don’t worry about the sections that sound complicate, unrelated. The whole idea is to try to drill down the vague idea to a more granular level.

Once you have made the decision on which option is more suitable to you, you can proceed to next step.

Let us say, you have decided to go with the option of having own website. Then the steps would be as follows:

1) Decide a domain name

2) Register domain name

3) Buy web hosting

4) Buy website template

5) Get the website developed

6) Promote the website to attract traffic.

7) Larger the targeted traffic = greater the cash you can earn online.

In the event that you have nothing to sell except your thoughts / information / expertise, you would probably go for option of having a blog and in that case the broad steps would be:

1) Decide blog name

2) Decide the blogging platform ( blogger, wordpress, xanga, squidoo, etc )

3) Sign up, choose blog template and start blogging

4) Promote your blog to attract traffic

5) Larger the traffic = greater will be your chances of making money online.
